You’d have to be cold-blooded if you felt nothing picturing 12-year-old Lilly gripping her dad’s shirtsleeve as they say their goodbyes at a restaurant, thinking she wouldn’t see him again for weeks when it turns out that would be the last time.Lilly grew up amidst the wild and unpredictable art scene that her father Joe Schactman was immersed in. He was an artist of sculpture, paintings, drawings, incorporating found objects into his evocative work. It was the 80s in the East Village, when galleries were popping up as fast as artists were putting paint to canvas. Her mother, exotic and elusive, a former stripper, was still dancing while pregnant with Lilly. They were a young couple wildly in love. But drugs took hold of them. Lilly was caught in the middle.
